This Wednesday, 11 February, we, Florence & Bettina,explore the challenge and richness of raising bi-racial children. Growing up between different cultural worlds, children may at times feel as if they have to choose between them.
Yet identity does not have to be an “either–or.” What matters is giving young people permission to embrace a “both–and” mindset, integrating all parts of who they are. Identity then becomes less about fitting into a box and more about shaping one’s own story.
Florence speaks openly about what it was like raising her son in an almost exclusively white environment – and why having role models who reflect who you are can be so powerful in helping young people become the person they want to be.
How can we create environments where bi-racial children don’t have to justify who they are and are free to explore, combine and evolve their identities?
