In today’s “Culture Vultures” conversation, we, Florence & Bettina explore a topic many of us can relate to – adapting to a majority.
Adaptation can take many forms: From cultural adjustment when living abroad to navigating societal expectations as someone with different needs or experiences. How far should adaptation go? Is it about blending in to show respect and openness – or can it come at the cost of losing parts of yourself?
I, Florence share my personal story of growing up in Germany and adapting to a society unfamiliar with my appearance. For my, “blending in” became both a protective strategy in my own home country and a sign of respect when travelling or living abroad.
