Today “Culture Vultures” will explore the cultural assumptions we all carry with us. Most of the time, we don’t even notice them. And, as long as no one challenges them, we tend to hold on to, reinforce and sometimes misread situations because of them.
“Silence means disagreement.” “Gen Z doesn’t like hierarchy.” Just two examples of assumptions that shape how we interpret others. Left unexamined, they can easily colour our perceptions, create misunderstandings and influence how we see other people.
Florence shares an example of an assumption that took her years to unlearn – not just intellectually, but on a deeper, internal level.
What is one assumption, perhaps culturally shaped, that you have discovered might not be true? Where might it be worth taking a second look?
