Words like “transparency”, “clarity” or even “deadlines” may sound neutral. Yet depending on context, they can trigger shifts in behaviour, especially when they are perceived as challenging someone’s role, authority or sense of status.
I, Florence, will share a recent real-life example where differing interpretations of such terms led to a subtle, yet powerful dynamic. It highlights how language, self-perception and cultural context intersect – including how societal patterns (such as more patriarchal vs. less hierarchical environments) can influence how initiative and authority are expressed and received.
